Drain Jetting: What Is It & Why Is It Important?

We all know that drains are extremely important for carrying wastewater away from your property.

What we sometimes forget is that this means it’s also important to look after them properly, rather than just hoping they’ll magically maintain themselves.

Any blockages or damage can mean backed-up sinks and toilets, along with overflowing drains outside of your property, all of which can be a health hazard and can cause lasting damage to structures.

That’s where drain jetting comes in. To find out how this service keeps your drains in top, hygienic condition, this month we thought we’d talk you through what drain jetting is and why it’s important.

What is drain jetting?

Drain jetting is a specialist technique used to clear your drains and pipework of all sorts of stubborn blockages, including oil or grease buildups and any debris that has gotten trapped within the system.

After drain jetting, you should be left with perfectly free-flowing drains once more, putting them back in optimal condition to do their job.

Drain jetting equipment is a much better solution than an ordinary pressure washing or drain cleaner as it can reach much further into your system, with a more powerful flow to get the job done.

How does high-pressure drain jetting work?

High-pressure drain jetting works by inserting a special nozzle down into the drain that requires clearing. This is connected via a hose to water tanks on our trucks with a mounted pump to deliver the much-needed, jet-like intensity via the nozzle at the other end.

Because the nozzle and hose system is flexible, it can navigate into the depths of your drains. The high-pressure delivery of water can then be used to break down any blockages or congested areas of the drain, pushing the offending materials through the system and out into the sewer.

How can I tell if my drains are blocked?

Drains can become blocked over time; it’s a simple fact of life that the more they’re used, the more likely they are to become blocked. Whether it’s because external debris is getting washed into your drains along with the rain or because there is a build-up of fats and grease that have been poured down your sinks, there are several signs to look out for that indicate a blocked drain:

  • Sinks in the bathroom drain slowly
  • Your manholes and gullies overflow quickly when it rains
  • Toilets flush slowly or the water stays high in the bowl
  • Your drains have a bad odour emanating from them all the time
  • Your plugholes gargle when water goes down them

Why is drain jetting important?

Drain jetting with high-pressure equipment is important for the health of your drainage system for a number of reasons, but the biggest reason is that it helps to solve all of the aforementioned issues you’ll face with a blocked drain.

If you don’t address a blocked drain, you’ll find wastewater flowing into your home or place of business. The land around your property can also flood, impacting the structural integrity of the entire building as the ground reaches a capacity for holding water and puts pressure on foundations.

Here are a few more reasons to opt for drain jetting for your property:

  • It’s quick, easy and doesn’t require any harmful chemicals
  • Your water flow will improve massively once it’s done
  • You’ll have peace of mind if you haven’t had them cleaned in a while
  • It eliminates blockages as an issue if you experience problems with your drains
